Working nights sucks.  No one seems to understand how it feels to be left out of everything.

I had to work 14 hours the night before/morning of Thanksgiving.  Then, instead of going right to sleep, I decide to watch the parade.  ’Cause I just want to be normal for a while.

I get lonely and call the family to have them bring over the niece and nephew because they are the only other ones that could possibly get as excited over the Sponge Bob balloon as I am.

Then, the rest of my family shows up with a van load of food for the communal meal.  The only problem is that true to form they are ready an hour and a half before the assigned meal time.

So, we go crash the brother in laws house super early.  Thank goodness he is cool with my families take on time.

Still no sleep for me.  Was planning a nap between parade and food.  But whatever.

Mom is starving, and keeps saying that all the salads are going to go bad before the turkey is finished because there is no more room in the refrigerator.  Driving what little mind I have left crazy.  But I hold my tongue and tell her to eat some olives and nuts, it’ll be ready soon.  Can anyone say role reversal?

Finally my honey brings in the turkey and carves it and the ham up.  We start the buffet.  I tell mom to go right after the kids.

My love tried something new on the turkey, he brined it.  The totally terrifying part is that he found the recipe on the internet.  It is the most amazing thing that I have eaten in a long time.  Rock on baby boy!  All hail Google!

I make it all the way to dessert before I realize that I am about to pass out.  I force the parents to take me home.  By the time I get into bed it has been 22 hours since I woke up for work.

Now, I ask you, why couldn’t we have had Thanksgiving dinner at like 6pm so that I could actually be non-zombie for once?  Last year I passed out at the in-laws and slept the entire day away.  I even missed the meal!

Working nights is bad enough without everyone being inconsiderate.  I hate missing so much of the important things in life.  Wish we could win the powerball and I could stay home.
