{January 18, 2011}   The New Dr

So, the British tv gods via Netflix finally sent me the latest season of Dr Who!

I was quite worried about my sweet Dr since his transformation.  Matt Smith’s portrayal of the Dr brings an angrier side out, he has much less patience with his new side kick or anyone else that he comes upon in his travels.  Weather he is telling off Chruchill or Amy Pond, his new companion, he raves not unlike a lunatic.  The Dr has always been a bit quick to talk and loose his temper, but this season he over does it.

Playin' nice with Winston Churchill, for the moment

The highlights of the season for me were: the return of the weeping angels, the deepening of the mystery that is River Song, and the addition of Amy Pond.

nothing to be scared about, it's just a statue... or is it...

The angels creep my shit out and make me truly afraid to turn my back to statues.  The idea that they could be moving towards me when I’m not looking stirs up all of my paranoid delusions.  Let alone that they may send me to a different time period or just snap my neck because they can.

it totally looks like it wants to eat my soul

River has such a strange string of events in her life and we haven’t even touched the tip of the iceberg.  How can anyone keep her timeline straight?  Why was she imprisoned?  Is she the cause of the Dr’s death, as they hinted or was that just to throw us off?  When do they spend enough time together that she learns the language of the Time Lords and how to fly the Tardis better than the Dr?  I wonder if they ever have any kids?  So many unanswered questions there.

haven't quite got her figured out just yet

Plus Amy Pond.  She is wonderful, I may like her even more than Rose.  She is super and brings a great amount of very needed life to the new season.  My questions about her character would be: why is the space time crack following her, does she bring about the end of the world  and is she more then she seems?  I really like her and I don’t want to find out that she is… another robot made by the Dalek to destroy everything or something worse.  I guess we will see what becomes of Miss Amy Pond in the future.

Amy carries the first season. Come on Dr time to pull your own weight

While we are on te topic of the Dalek, I must say that I find the new ones a bit unbelievable.  Aren’t they all about everyone being the same under one leader?  To have made them all different colors was odd.  Also, the Dr had a robot bomb guy and a time machine, why didn’t he use them to drop off the guy on the Dalek ship right before he detonated.  He could’ve used their own weapon against them if he had thought/moved faster.

should they be different colors? I think not.

On the whole, I was fairly happy with the new season.  I am glad to have the Dr, Tardis and a companion or two back in my life.  It was becoming way to dull without them.  :)
